Most of the chefs today would prefer to wear their
traditional gear when cooking. It is because they see the attire as a more
professional apparel. When we get back to the traditional apparel of a chef, it
would remind us of the hat, coat, double-breasted jacket, and a checkered
pants. However, that dress code seems to disappear as new designs continues to
bloom each passing day. The revisions and transition of the said apparel
continues even until this very moment. Designers are still making new styles to
make a chef apparel fit on the modern world.
The Importance of Chef's Apparel
It is the designers' wish to bring new changes on the
apparel but not diverging from the real purpose of the gear. Each piece of the
chef's uniform has a particular value
and advantage towards the one who will wear. Let's say, the double-breasted
jacket that chefs wear is a gear used to protect the chef from intense heat in
the kitchen, not just for the neat appearance of the gear.
In the entire outfit, the coat is the most important piece.
It should be worn even in the absence of other accessories. Most probably, the Cuisinier
Chef Coat brings a professional look and gives a touch of comfort at the
same time. The executive coat usually has 10-12 buttons. And also, a
thermometer pocket is included in the coat which is an essential part of the
said profession.
Also, chefs need to wear chef's pants as this also has a
special value. In the traditional apparel, the pants were mainly designed to be
checkered so that stains will not be conspicuous. Nowadays, chefs prefer to
wear baggy or kitchen cargo pants. These kind of pants gives the one wearing
gives more comfort allowing them to move freely with the breathable space.
However, checkered or stripe no pocket chef
pants still appears to be classic.
And of course, the attire would be incomplete without the
chef's hat. Before, the chef's hat is considered as the symbol status of the
chefs. However, the hat is not just a status symbol but plays a more important
role both for the chef and the people who will taste the food. The mesh top of
the top allows an air circulation that cools and comforts the chef wearing it.
Also the chef's hat prevents hair from possibly falling to the food.
Each piece of the chef's uniform plays important and
different roles. Each part of the attire works toward a common goal, to make
the chef more comfortable and displaying professionalism at the same time. And
despite of the newly invented designs of the fashion designers, the main
purpose still remains to be true.
